Our Sphere of Influence
This evening as I was watching a news station discuss the Grammy’s and then showing a snippet of their entertainment, I was shaking my head as the headlines described the event as “Cultural Rot on Full Display at 2021 Grammys.” My heart sank as the realization of just how low our nation has sunk in moral decline. It no longer shocks the average American. We see, hear, and experience depths of depravity at such a rate that nothing really surprises us anymore. Shaking our heads and feeling sad does not correct the direction this nation is going. So just exactly what can a Christian do to impact our nation in a godly, Christian way…well I’m glad you asked?
In prayer recently, I felt such a burden for our nation. Sadness overwhelmed me and I just desperately wanted to do something to have a positive impact on my world. The more I prayed, the more I felt the Holy Spirit say that each person has a sphere of influence – people they encounter on a regular basis. I may not be able to stop everything going horribly wrong in my nation but I can impact my sphere of influence. I can have an impact in my home, in my neighborhood, and in my community. If every believer in every community will do their part at the local level then it will have a positive impact at the national level.
If the Church will rise up and be the church that God has called us to be, then we wouldn’t be in the shape we are today. We have set back so quietly, so politely, so disinterestedly, so afraid of taking a stand for what we know is right, and so afraid of being bold enough to state what we know is wrong that it has changed our culture to the point that we no longer have a moral standard to live by.
So where does it all end? What will this nation look like in ten, twenty, or fifty years from now? What will my children and grandchildren have to deal with when I am gone? Will there still be faith in our nation? The questions continue and the fact that we need a God intervention in our land is very apparent.
2 Corinthians 10:13, (ESV) “But we will not boast beyond limits, but will boast only with regard to the area of influence God assigned to us, to reach even to you.”
I want to encourage you to be the change that you desire to see in our land. Be the wife, mom, daughter, sister, neighbor, and friend that God has called you to be. Be involved in your local community. Carefully vote for godly people to hold positions of leadership, especially those positions that will impact your children and grandchildren (such as the School Board). Know what is happening in areas that you have influence or impact. Remember, you do have a sphere of influence in this land and use that influence wisely.
Here at The Beautiful Basics, we are cheering you on. Be strong and courageous and be the person God has called you to be. You are loved!
